X3-2

Treasure Bay Oriental Development Co.
Building
Shanghai, China

In collaboration with Pei Partnership Architects, X3-2 was a proposal for a 200 meter high 80,000 square meter Class A office tower located in Shanghai’s New Lujiazui Financial District, across from the Pudong River. The project consists of 43 oval shaped floor plates transitioning 90 degrees from the ground floor to the roof, maintaining the same floor plate on each level. This standardized the curtain wall panels across the entire tower with 108 panels on each floors while creating a dynamic, organic shape, which presents the viewer on the ground with an ever changing profile of the building.

Several alternative designs with square floor plates transitioning 45 degrees were also developed with the same design principles.
